Bionutri Ecodophilus is one of a handful of my very favourite probiotic products. I've found it to be a particularly helpful formula for patients who have IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and also diverticular disease. This could be due to the fact that it contains a particular type of bacterium known as Lactobacillus kefir which is especially helpful to an irritable gut but also because it doesn't contain any FOS. The letters FOS stand for fructo-oligosaccharide, a normally very healthy and helpful prebiotic substance which is good for most of us but which sometimes isn't suitable for IBS sufferers.
Useful tip: Bionutri Ecodophilus doesn't need to be refrigerated so is very useful when travelling - but you will extend its shelf-life if you do keep it in the fridge.
Good quality probiotics are not cheap but they really are worth the investment. Two daily is the manufacturer's recommended dose and I would certainly follow this advice, particularly if you're taking the product in order to repopulate the gut after antibiotics. However, if you’re on a tight budget as so many of us are these days, I’d suggest going with 1 capsule per day so each subsequent pack lasts twice as long. But remember this important point: As the friendly bacteria in our systems don’t live long, it is important to replenish them regularly. That’s why I think it makes sense, at the very least, to invest in a one or two month supply every six months.
For children from two years old, the dose is one capsule daily which can be broken open and sprinkled onto yoghurts or cereals or into smoothies. They won't notice, by the way - it doesn't taste of anything nasty.
IMPORTANT TO KEEP IN MIND: Probiotics, being live bacteria, are destroyed by heat so it's best not to take any kind of probiotic on an empty stomach or with hot food.
Bionutri Ecodophilus contains Lactobacillus kefir, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Bifidobacterium lactis.
